Back in the ‘70s, Dave Thompson was an elementary school teacher and wanted his students to observe the life cycle of newborn chicks. As the flock grew, Dave began to raise the chickens on his family farm.

And that was just the beginning. In 1987, the Thompsons began building Pearl Valley Farms, which soon included 200,000 birds, an egg packing/cooler building and a manure composting building. The farm continued to grow while maintaining an unwavering commitment to doing what’s right – naturally. This commitment lead to not only the development of innovative production processes, but the expansion of the products offered.

The special diet being fed to the hens not only produced the highly nutritious eggs that quickly began attracting attention from local and national retailers under the Pearl Valley Eggs brand but also resulted in very calcium-high litter that was aerobically composted to become fertilizer. Originally provided to area farmers growing the crops for the chicken feed, Pearl Valley Farms fertilizers were soon in high-demand from turf management professionals. Seeing the successful results, Pearl Valley Farms introduced its Healthy Grow organic fertilizer line to consumers in early 2015.

To continue offering the highest-quality products, Pearl Valley Farms has acquired additional brands with aligned principles, including Phil’s Fresh Eggs in 2014.

Today, what started as a simple science experiment has become one of the country’s largest, self-sustaining, environmentally responsible egg farms and a proud family of brands. The Thompson family and all Pearl Valley Farms is dedicated to ensuring that the hens receive the highest level of care, the most nutritious of diets and that they are kept safe and comfortable.
